Screams of joy and laughter fill the International Promenade on Friday, April 1 on High Point University’s campus.
This is the university’s second annual spring carnival, almost double the size as the last. While last year’s spring carnival had rides such as the ferris wheel and rock climbing wall, this year those rides returned with additional ones, including the swing carousel and a giant fun slide.
Since the spring carnival last year had such a big turn out, the High Point University Campus Activities Team and Student Government Association teamed up to make the carnival bigger and better for the students.
“We started the spring carnival last year and we had a really good turnout and the students had a lot of fun,” said Alyssa Pittari, the marketing director for HPU’s Campus Activities Team. “So, we wanted to do the same thing this year and make it even bigger and better for the students… We wanted more rides, more food, and just more things to do overall.”
The air truly smelt like a carnival due to the three food trucks giving out tons of carnival treats, such as funnel cakes, cotton candy, ice cream and more.
Both the Student Government Association and Campus Activities Team share many of the same goals. One being to increase student involvement.
Emmy Beck-Aden, the SGA Vice President, said, “One of the big goals of both SGA and Campus Activities Team is to increase student involvement and just be able to have collaboration and engagement between all students from all different corners of campus. So, this was a great way, especially as we get towards finals and the end of the end of the school year, to just be able to come out and enjoy a fun social event with our student body.”
Jenna Fairbanks and Robert Cazzola, both HPU seniors, loved hanging out with their friends, getting food and riding the rides on the beautiful day.
