On-campus student jobs create opportunities

High Point University creates job opportunities for students wanting to find a way to work while in school.

At High Point University, students have the opportunity to apply for on-campus jobs, which can
range from being a Resident Assistant to Mailroom Assistant or even working on the court with
HPU Athletics.

Students Ellie Haron, Mia D’Achille, and Jenna Masteropolo all have on-campus jobs, and all
have different opinions on having an on-campus job.

Ellie Haron works at the High Point University mailroom. She aims to work every day for about
3-4 hours to meet her 20-hour work goal for the week. She enjoys working in the mailroom as it
is an easy way for her to make money while at school.

“One thing I love about working on campus is I get to work with my friends. Having an
on-campus job has allowed me to meet a lot of great people,” Ellie said.

Another on-campus job opportunity is with Residence Life, which includes roles like being a
Resident Assistant.

Jenna Masteropolo is a Resident Assistant for Village 2. She enjoys being a Resident Assistant
but says there are a lot of downsides to the job that people do not know about.

“We’re not supposed to be on duty 24/7, but sometimes it seems like we’re. If a resident texts or
calls you needing something in the middle of the day, you have to respond, but you’re not on duty
24/7, but it feels like it, “ said Jenna.

Jenna also implies, “being an RA is tough, but it has its perks. I’ve made so many good
connections with people that I will forever be grateful for”.

Another opportunity for students is working with High Point University Athletics. This job
allows students a hands-on experience while working in sports.

Mia D’Achille works for High Point University Athletics as a gameday operations employee,
She is responsible for putting all the gameday equipment out on the field or court and back up.

“My favorite part about having this job is getting to watch the games up close and also get to
work them as well. It’s super fun to watch and engage with players,” said Mia.

The downside of this job, Mia explained, was how unpredictable the weather is; you never truly
know what you’ll be working in. “One time I was working a lacrosse game in the freezing cold
while it was raining, it was misereble,” said Mia.
